ROBERT B. CATELL

A former chairman, president and CEO of KeySpan Energy Corporation. KeySpan is an energy holding company formed by a 1998 merger between Brooklyn Union and Long Island Lighting Company. Catell began his career with Brooklyn Union in 1958, and worked his way up the ranks until he became its president in 1990, president and CEO in 1996 and chairman and CEO in 1997. As CEO of KeySpan, he led the company to acquire another energy company, Eastern Enterprises, to make KeySpan the largest natural gas distributor in New England.

Born in 1937 in Brooklyn, Catell has a bachelor's and master's degree in mechanical engineering from the City College of New York. He also attended Columbia University's Executive Development Program and Harvard Business School's Advanced Management Program. Catell has been on numerous boards of directors, including the American Gas Association, Gas Research Institute, Houston Exploration Fund, New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, Business Council of New York State, New York City Partnership, New York City Investment Fund, Empire State Business Alliance and New York City Public Private Partnership, Boundary Gas and Taylor Gas Liquids.
